👀 🕰️ ✈️PRESENT & PAST:Elsewhere, I'm sure you've read about the great win by Ballinrobe Community School in the Connacht Colleges First Year A League final, against St Gerald's College, Castlebar, on Monday last.I've gone back into the archives to dig out the 1987 Connacht First Year A Championship win by the now-defunct Ballinrobe CBS - the school's first, and I am fairly certain only, time to win that prestigious title. This year's team is following in illustrious footsteps and we know they will go on to achieve even greater things in the years ahead. Niall Malone got three goals in the 1987 final against St.Mary’s College Galway at Headford. I'll try to put first names and clubs on the team - help appreciated:Donal Hughes, Ballinrobe GAA ClubPaddy Sweeney, Ballinrobe GAA ClubFergal O'Loughlin, Ballinrobe GAA ClubTom Philbin, TourmakeadyConal Finnerty, Ballinrobe GAA ClubNoel Molloy, there was some confusion about Noel - was it Kilmaine Noel or Tourmakeady Noel? Now confirmed as Tourmakeady Noel.Tommy Conroy, HollymountNiall Malone, Ballinrobe GAA Club]Adrian Burke, Ballinrobe GAA Club Laurence Keane, KilmaineTony Walkin, Ballinrobe GAA Club - his brother Peter is in the news this weather as a member of the Dunmore McHales backroom team - Dunmore have advanced to the Connacht Intermediate Final.Roy Burke, Neale GaaJohn Fahey, Clonbur Gaa ClubDonal Costello, Ballinrobe GAA Club - shortly before he achieved greatness in defenceFergal Costello Ballinrobe GAA Club - later Mayo senior captain. Younger than Donal but they appeared in First Year together.Tom Lally, Tourmakeady - am I right here? Kilmaine Gaa The G Kyne at centre half-back for St Mary's is surely Gerry Kyne from Clonbur? And I think the Mark Kelly could be the Mark Kelly who went on to play senior football - and maybe senior hurling - for Galway, but I'm not certain of that. Corrections etc welcome. Anyone got any pictures or cuttings from the earlier rounds? Some run to beat Colman's, Summerhill, Jarlath's and St Mary's.
